Developers Urge EU Regulators to Enforce Apple Fee Rules Amid DMA Dispute
European developers are escalating their fight against Apple's payment policies, accusing the tech giant of flouting the Digital Markets Act (DMA). A coalition including Deezer and Proton claims Apple's new fee structure—13-20% for App Store sales and 5-15% on external transactions—violates DMA rules and disadvantages EU firms compared to their U.S. counterparts.
The European Commission fined Apple €500 million earlier this year for blocking alternative payment options, but developers argue enforcement remains sluggish. "This situation is untenable and damaging to the app economy," stated the Coalition for App Fairness, alleging Apple's practices stifle innovation and transparency.
